Key Responsibilities:
Testing Backflow Prevention Systems:
Backflow prevention systems are devices installed on pipes to prevent contaminated water from flowing back into the potable water supply. Technicians test these devices to ensure they are functioning correctly.
Identifying Contamination Sources:
Identify plumbing systems where contaminated water may enter the pressurized water system, such as improper connections or illegal water connections.
Ensuring Proper Installation:
Backflow technicians will visit backflow protection installation sites to ensure that new equipment is installed and functions properly.
Record Keeping:
Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, and repairs, including test results and hazard assessments.
Maintenance and Repair:
Responsible for repairing or replacing backflow preventers.
Other Duties:
Responsible for installing water meters, performing backflow surveys, and processing documentation.
Collaboration:
Work with other professionals and agencies, such as plumbing inspectors and water utility personnel.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education: high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Experience in the water utility, plumbing, or irrigation industries is required.
Certifications: backflow testing
Technical Skills: Knowledge of backflow prevention devices, hydraulics, and safety practices
Communication Skills: Effective communication, both written and verbal,
Computer Skills: Ability to use computer software for record-keeping and data entry: Service Titan
